Description

Welcome to my auction
– Up for your consideration is this
super Grimwades of Staffordshire WW1 Bruce Bairnsfather Bowl.
The bowl measures approximately 6.75″ in diameter and is in good
condition no real wear or cracks or restorations.
It has some build up of dirt, mainly to the front which didn’t come off when I washed it. (I didn’t scrub it or use chemicals as I didn’t want to disturb the image in any way.)
Grim Humor:  “Give it a good ‘ardun Bert. You can generally ear em fizzing a bit first if they are aggin to explode”
The reverse bears the Grimwades Winton Globe backstamp with a Crown above.
Captain
(Charles) Bruce Bairnsfather (09/07/1887 – 29/09/1959) was a prominent
British humourist and cartoonist who created ‘Fragments from France’
cartoons published weekly in “The Bystander” magazine during the First
World War.
Towards
the end of 1917 the publishers of The Bystander granted Grimwades
Limited of Stoke on Trent, exclusive permission to reproduce a limited
number of ‘Fragments from France’ cartoons on items from their war time
pottery range.
